The short answer: the name on a perfume bottle tells you how much fragrance oil is dissolved in the alcohol. More oil usually means a richer, denser scent that needs fewer sprays.

These ranges are industry conventions, not legal limits, so two brands can use the same word for quite different strengths. That is why it is worth looking at the actual percentage when a brand states it.
Where 9AM sits
Every 9AM Eau de Parfum contains 30% fragrance oil. That is well above the typical Eau de Parfum range and in the territory many brands would sell as an Extrait. We kept the name Eau de Parfum because the scents are made to be worn every day, not saved for special occasions.
What a higher concentration changes
- Fewer sprays: two or three are usually enough.
- A denser scent: the base notes – vanilla, amber, musk, woods – come through more clearly.
- Closer to the skin: oil-rich perfumes often wear warm and close rather than loud.
How long any perfume lasts still depends on your skin, the weather and the notes themselves – fresh citrus fades faster than vanilla or amber.
How to get the most out of a strong Eau de Parfum
- Spray on pulse points: neck, inner wrists, behind the ears.
- Apply on moisturised skin – dry skin lets scent fade faster.
- Do not rub your wrists together; let the perfume dry on its own.
- A spray on clothing or a scarf lasts longer than on skin.
- Store the bottle away from heat and sunlight.
